William Lynn Tharp August 10, 1944~July 9, 2014 William Lynn Tharp, 69, of Valley Mills passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services for Lynn will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, July 13th at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills, with Rev. Gaylon Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Lanes Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Visitation will be 5 - 7 P.M. Saturday, July 12, at Foss Funeral Home. Lynn was born August 10, 1944 in Clifton TX to William Herald and Fayrene (Cox) Tharp. He attended Clifton public schools. Lynn married Cheryl Powers on April 12, 1963 in Valley Mills. To this union a son, Jason was born. Lynn worked in the construction field for many years. He worked for various CAT dealers retiring from Holt CAT in Waco after 30 years of service. Lynn was an amateur radio operator(KB5TDZ) for many years. In having this license it allowed him to be the Emergency Management Coordinator for Valley Mills. He was also active in the Bosque County Amateur Radio club in which he served as president for many years. Lynn also served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Valley Mills for several years and was active with the VMVFD for years. He was formerly a member of the Texas National Guard. Lynn proudly served as deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, he loved his Lord God and that was obvious to any one who knew him. Lynn was preceded in death by his father William Harold Tharp; in-laws Bill and Hazel Powers of Valley Mills. Survivors include his wife of 52 years Cheryl; son Jason Tharp and wife Stephanie of Groesbeck; two grandchildren Elias and Ivy Tharp of Groesbeck; his mother Fayrene Tharp of Clifton; many nieces, nephews, cousins; Cheryl's niece Kimberly Savage who was their driver to the many long trips to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital these past three years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to MD Anderson, VFW Post in Clifton, Texas, or the Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
