William David Smith

William David Smith, age 68, of Valley Mills passed away on October 27, 2021 surrounded by family. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 31 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Services will be on Monday, November 1 at 10:00 am at Patton Baptist Church in Valley Mills with Rev. Pat Cummings officiating. Graveside services to follow at the Smith family cemetery.

David was born January 17, 1953 to Robert and Evelyn (Cooey) Smith. He was a lifelong resident of Valley Mills graduating from Valley Mills High School in 1971 and then joining the US Army airborne division. Following his military career, he married Billie (Sissy) Anz on September 16, 1978.

David had a servant heart serving his community as a member of the Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He also obtained his paramedic certification and enjoyed working in emergency medical services. He served two terms as a councilman for the city of Valley Mills.
In his free time he loved spending time with family and flying remote control airplanes. He was a member of the Texas Model Aeronautics Foundation and spent many hours at the flying field in Valley Mills. He was a member of Patton Baptist Church and knew Jesus Christ as his savior.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Billie (Sissy) Smith and his three sons, Christopher M. Smith of Valley Mills; David Allen Smith and his wife Michelle of Valley Mills, and Travis A. Smith of Round Rock; his sister Lori (Smith) Ferguson and husband Paul of Grand Junction, CO; nephews Zane Ferguson and wife Allyson of Conway, AR; Nathan Ferguson and his wife Mariah of Lewisville, TX; maternal aunts Linda Weeks of Waco and Loretta Cooey of China Springs; mother in law Jo Ann Anz of Valley Mills, and step-grandson Blayne Risinger of Valley Mills, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers include Bruce Crunk, Bruce Rayburn, Freeman Mullens, Chris, Allen, and Travis Smith, Zane and Nathan Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers: Valley Mills Volunteer Fire department.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Valley Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
