Verla Carpenter, age 75, of Valley Mills passed away September 2, 2011, in Portland, Oregon. Graveside service will be held 9 A.M. Saturday at the Valley Mills Cemetery followed by a 10 A.M. Memorial Service at the First Baptist Church under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Valley Mills First Baptist Church Handicap Improvement Fund. Mrs. Carpenter was born on February 26, 1936, in Portland, Oregon. She was the daughter of Bert Earl and Leta Evelyn (Finch) Shipp. She attended school in Portland andreceived training insecretarial school. Before moving to Valley Mills she lived in Midland, Texas, where she was in the Avon Cosmetic Business for over 20 years. She was also past worthy matron in the Midland Eastern Stars. Survivors include her children: Robert and Marina Spaw, Margaret and Mitch Namendorf, Steven & Jackie Spaw, Cathey and John Trankovich, Cindy and MickyColomb; 2 sisters: Wanda Harmon, Earlene and Denver Huff; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
