Tempest Leola Wortham Neal
December 7, 1924 ~ December 6, 2024

Tempest Leola Wortham Neal was born December 7, 1924 to William (Bill) Notley Wortham III and Tempest Blanche Rainbolt Wortham, at home in Bosque County, Texas.  She passed away December 6th, 2024, one day shy of 100 years. She was the oldest of seven children and grew up on the family farm in Wortham Bend, China Spring, Texas.  They said they were so poor they didn't even realize when the Great Depression occurred.
After graduating from Waco High School, she attended North Texas State Women's University then earned a master's degree from Louisiana State University, where she was a sorority member.  She was also a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII, proudly doing what she could to help the war effort. She married Robert (Bob) Lee Neal, Jr, and soon they relocated to California, where he worked with the forestry service, and she was a social worker.  In 1967 they welcomed a daughter, Wynona Blanche Neal.  She returned to Texas after the death of her husband and once again lived on the family farm, ultimately spending her last years at Quality Care of Waco.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents Bill and Blanche Wortham; and her siblings William N. Wortham IV, Wanda Lee Wortham Seawright, Joyce Marie Wortham Brickhouse, and George Ray Wortham.  She is survived by her daughter, Wynona; sister Patsy Nadine Wortham Prince and brother Edgar James Wortham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be Monday, Monday, December 9th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Wortham Bend Cemetery, Oak Grove Baptist Church, in China Spring, Texas, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
