Sandy was born on July 30, 1952, in Brownsville, Texas, to Harry and Mittie Jean Bledsoe Shank. Sandy was a loving sister, wife, mother, and "Mawmaw." Sandy took pride in making sure other's needs were met, whether it be a home cooked meal, or helping out in any way she could. She truly had a giver's soul that knew no boundaries. Sandy married Ed Hillin April 5, 1974. He preceded her in death February 9, 2007. Sandy was the proud mother of one "miracle" son, Christian Heath, born after 7 years. Sandy was employed at the Texas Farm Bureau for over 30 years in Waco, Rosenberg, and Houston. A very loyal employee, she loved her job and her coworkers. Sandy enjoyed crafting with her sister, Sharon. The crafts were often Christmas related, as Sandy cherished the Christmas season--putting up decorations in early November and watching Christmas movies year-round. Sandy looked forward to her annual trip back to Brownsville with her sister to reminisce and visit with her brothers and other family.
Much of the past 12 years of her life were spent with her two grandsons that adore her. It is safe to say Sandy kept her schedule clear just in case she needed to be somewhere for her grandbabies. Sandy was an active member of the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. In remission from breast cancer for 22 years, Sandy began her second battle with an aggressive form in 2022. Although her extra 22 years on this earth were a gift to us, her absence leaves a great void, and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her son Chris Hillin and wife Katie, 2 grandsons: Knox and Hayes; 2 brothers: David Shank, Mark Shank and wife Sandy; a sister: Sharon Crouch and husband Jerry; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their special thanks to First Baptist Church family for their many acts of kindness during her lengthy illness.
