Sammie Strunk
April 8, 1925~Nov. 25, 2016

Sammie Strunk, age 91, of Valley Mills, Texas, has been gathered into the arms of her Lord. She was called to her eternal home on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Catherine's Hospice in Waco. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. at Foss Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday at Searsville Country Church under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Conducting the service will be her nephew Steve Watson of Clifton and Dr. Lynn Parks, pastor of Searsville. Private graveside service will be later at Valley Mills Cemetery.

Sammie was born April 8, 1925, in Lometa, Texas to Samuel Tackitt and Hallie (Cravy) Tackitt. She attended schools in Wortham, Texas and married Truman C. Strunk on Sept. 16, 1942 in Wortham.  During WWII, while Truman was in the Army, she moved to Waco. Later, she owned a successful boutique for many years and made sure the women in and around Waco wore the latest hairstyles.  Sammie was a woman of strong faith. She worked tirelessly her whole life serving her church, her fellow man, and her Lord. She was a talented artist, writer, prayer warrior and avid gardener. Sammie truly lived out her Christian values and helped the needy every chance she could. She was a dedicated wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman, her parents, sisters,  Matie Day Craig, Margaret Benton, and Johnnie Tackitt, brothers, Robert Lea Tackitt, RC Tackitt, Nathan Tackitt and Jack Tackitt, 1 grandson James Edward Lewis, Jr.

She is survived by two sisters, Ann Murray of Clifton and Ellen Watson of Waco, her daughters, Lana Kay Lewis and husband James of Valley Mills, and Ginger Kornegay and husband Billy of China Spring, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grand children, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made to Lathan Springs Camp and Retreat Center.
