Ritzy Lou Vee Reid Anderson
January 26, 1927 - June 7, 2024
Ritzy Lou Vee Reid Anderson, 97, passed away at home June 7, 2024 surrounded by loving family. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, kindness and ready humor, as well as the music, art and beauty she created.
Born January 26, 1927 in Coahoma, Texas, Ritzy was the youngest of three daughters of Earl and Velma Mays Reid. She attended Coahoma High School, class of '44, and the University of North Texas in Denton. In 1947 in Big Spring, she married Eddie Anderson, who often told people he had loved Ritzy since the sixth grade. Daughter Terri arrived in 1953 and 10 years later, daughter Karol.
Ritzy was a member of the Coahoma Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Square Dancing Club. She enjoyed tennis, camping, fishing, road trips, and getting together with friends. She was a gifted painter, piano player and cook, known for her pound cake, cucumber relish, and Sunday dinner.
In 1975, reflecting Eddie's career advancement, the family relocated to Waco then Tennessee, Arizona and California, finally returning to the Waco area in 1980. Ritzy was the top sales operator at Cablevision until her retirement. The couple worked their small farm in China Spring for many years before moving to Valley Mills in 2014 to be near family.
Ritzy overcame many challenges in her life, including breast cancer and heart surgery, inspiring others with her strength and resilience. After 70 years of marriage, she lost Eddie in 2017, her greatest challenge.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and cousin, Ritzy also had a remarkable network of devoted friends to whom she was a role model of true friendship and tender strength. All who knew her describe her with the same words: "kind" and "sweet."
Ritzy leaves behind daughter and son-in-law Terri and Jon Ker and daughter Karol Andersson; five grandchildren and their spouses, Cheney and Debbie Anderson, Robyn Howard, Matt Ker, Tristan Blackwell, and Skyler and Anjelica Blackwell; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, parents, siblings, brothers-in-law, and nephew, Lane Arthur.
Ritzy's family is grateful beyond words for the compassion, competence and friendship of her caregivers: Kathleen Butler, who cared for Ritzy and Eddie for eight years and became as close as family, as well as Selena Hernandez and Melissa Paton.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 22 at Searsville Country Church, 686 FM 217 in Valley Mills, Texas. Lunch and visitation at 11:00 AM, service at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Coahoma Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the excellent hospice organization whose team helped make Ritzy's final days peaceful: Community Healthcare of Texas, 6700 Sanger Ave., Waco, TX 76710, www.chot.org/giving.
