Michael Wayne Tarrant "Mike" was born October 4, 1949, in Houston Texas to Juanita Lottie Ann McLeod Raines and Donald Gene Raines. He spent his early years in Rosenburg, Texas. Mike passed away on Friday, March 10th, 2023, at the age of 73.
When Mike was about 2 years old, his mother married Jerry Dial Tarrant. Two sisters were born to this union, Kathryn Gail Tarrant, and Jerri Lynn Tarrant. Jerry Tarrant adopted Mike. When Mike was young, his family moved to Austin TX, where he grew up with his 2 sisters. His mother married William Hugo Moore. Hugo raised Mike and his 2 sisters as his own and was their "Dad."
At the age of 17, Mike joined the United States Army. He served 3 years active duty as a mechanic. His Basic Training was at Fort Polk, La. After Basic he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Then he served a one-year tour in Vietnam. After his return from Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Sill Army Base in Lawton, OK. until he was Honorably discharged in Oct 1969. He joined the Army Reserve and worked for the Civil Service until he retired in 2004. Mike retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. During his service he was awarded several medals, including the VSM (Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star). After a couple years he went back to work for VSE Corp, a government contractor, opening and managing a facility restoring and refurbishing military equipment for the Army. He spent his life serving his country.
Mike was a member of Patton Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church. He worked on many projects and loved his church family. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Group in Clifton and met with the group regularly for breakfast at Johnny's. He enjoyed the monthly veteran's luncheon and group activities. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Mike has two daughters, Tambra Marie of Norman OK, and April Dawn of China Spring TX. Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Lottie Ann Moore, sister, Jerri Lynn Tarrant, William Hugo Moore, Jerry Dial Tarrant, Donald Gene Raines.
Mike is survived by his wife: Carrie Lee Stukes Tarrant of Valley Mills; sister: Kathryn Gail Calogero and Trey of Spicewood, Tx; daughters: Tambra Jones and Dustin, April Hanna and Jack; two stepsons: Kenneth Quarles, and Travis Quarles; sister: Pamela Raines Fletcher of MO; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was much loved and will be missed by many.
Mike will be lying in State Friday March 17th at Foss Funeral Home, 600 Ave. C, Valley Mills, TX.
Services will be held on Saturday March 18th, 2023, at Patton Baptist Church, 6750 Chisholm Trail, Valley Mills, TX 76689. Services will be officiated by his Pastor, Brother Pat Cummings. Visitation will be 12–1:00pm. Service will begin at 1:00, graveside service to follow in Valley Mills Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Pallbearers will be Jace Hanna, Cade Hanna, Casey Hanna, Brian J. Bordano, Guido W. Bordano, III, Mark Painter, Jim Hilton, and Danny Sparks.
