Mary Gonzales Garcia
Dec. 21 1944 ~ May 31, 2023
Mary Gonzales Garcia was a caring, loving mommy, grandma, auntie, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, with her daughter and grandson by her side.
Mary was born to Pedro and Amanda Gonzales in Lubbock, Texas, on December 21, 1944. The state of Texas was her home, growing up both in Lubbock and Mathis. She graduated from Mathis High School in Mathis, Texas, and moved back to Lubbock, where she would start her family and career as an MHMR caseworker for more than 30 years. She moved to China Spring in 2001 and retired from Waco's MHMR in 2010.
Mary was a strong, independent, and compassionate soul. She was known for being very witty and outgoing. She dearly loved her entire family and her pets, especially her cats. For Mary, family was everything; she showed that through her love and compassion by showing up and helping out family in whatever way she could. She taught everyone around her that no matter what life threw at you, you were more than capable of handling it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Domingo Gonzales, her sister Patricia Lucy Guerrero and her brother-in-law Ylario Lalo Guerrero.
She is survived by her daughter Margo Moreno and grandson Ezra Moreno, both of China Spring; brother Armando (Janie) Gonzales; her ex-husband Raul Moreno; Her sister's children who were like her own, Adam Guerrero, Ermelinda (Jerry) Outlaw, Mario (Norma) Guerrero, Criselda Guerrero; her great niece Meagan Guerrero; her great nephews Zakk Guerrero, Ryen Subia, Jerry Lynn Outlaw, and Josey Whales Outlaw, and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lubbock, TX, to celebrate and honor her very well-lived life.
