Martha "Marty" Beatrice Stodghill Terry

April 19, 1944 ~ September 23, 2026

On September 23, 2026, Martha “Marty” Beatrice Stodghill Terry left this life for the home she knew was waiting for her in Heaven. She leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply, countless stories that will keep them laughing, and a little less sass in the world than there was before.

Marty was born April 19, 1944, in Hallsburg, Texas, to Owen Elliott and Margaret Lucille Stodghill. Throughout her life, Marty lived on her own terms, following her heart, embracing the moment, and collecting plenty of stories along the way.

She loved spending time with family and friends and could often be found on her porch enjoying coffee, playing games, visiting, or watching the birds. Her beloved dog, Crissy, held a special place in her heart and brought her tremendous joy and laughter.

Marty loved people. She loved talking to them, hearing what everyone was up to, and discussing it afterward. Life with Marty came with opinions, observations, stories, and plenty of laughter.

She loved cooking and appreciated a good home cooked meal, and she had definite ideas about what made one good. Seasoning was nonnegotiable. She seasoned food according to her own taste, much like the good Lord seasoned Marty herself: generously, unmistakably, and with more than a little spice. Beneath that sass was a joyful spirit and a heart that cared deeply for others. She believed in God, prayed for those she loved, and trusted Him through life’s difficult seasons.

Marty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra K. Harris Woerndell; brothers, Beryl Stodghill and Owen Stodghill Jr.; and sisters, Betty Louise Toia and Eva Bob Lewellan.

She is survived by her brothers, David Wayne Stodghill and Ronnie Joe Stodghill of Waco; sister in law, Linda Stodghill of Euless; sons, Mark Terry and wife Beth of China Spring, and Jim Harris and wife Marcia of Valley Mills; daughter, Opal Potts of Sulphur Springs; son-in-law, Fred Woerndell of Valley Mills; and generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Marty was truly one of a kind. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and the stories she left behind will keep everyone talking for years to come.

A memorial service celebrating Marty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Valley Mills Baptist Church. A visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
