Margaret Higginbotham, passed away at the age of 80 on March 8, 2024, in Waco, Tx. A private graveside service will be held at a latter date by the family.
Marie was born March 28, 1943, at home in West, Texas, area to Adolph and Frances Tichavsky Grones. She grew up in a farming family and attended Abbott Schools. While working at Farm Bureau she met and married her co-working Gene Higginbotham. They were married 34 years. Gene passed away in 2001. In addition to being a wife and mother, she held 2 careers with first working in the insurance business and the second working for the Army Corp of Engineers that deliver vital public and military engineering services. She also had the opportunity to service her country after the Iraq war being deployed overseas to help assess damaged infrastructures.
Following her career, Margie began her career in 1985 as the Administrative Assistant for the Whitney Lake Office. In 1996, she became the Administrative Officer for the Mid-Brazos Project Office. She deployed to Kuwait in 2003 for six months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and in 2005, she received the Fort Worth District Administrative Support Specialist of the Year Award. In 2007, she was promoted to Program Analyst for the Three Rivers Regional Project Office. Her leadership, perseverance, and unwavering supp0rt, has made her a tremendous asset to the Three Rivers Region.
Mrs. Higginbotham's years of service and commitment to duty reflects great credit of herself, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the United States Army.
After retirement, she had numerous hobbies including quilting, puzzles and her yard work. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Valley Mills. You knew if she was there because she sat in the same seat every Sunday. She was preceded in death by her parents: sister, Patrician Ann; brother, Edwin "Sonny" Grones; son Brad Higginbotham.
She is survived by her sister Frances Grones Courange-Mings: and longtime friend, Nancy Weber; a granddaughter: Claire Higginbotham Chaney; nephew, Lee and wife Jana Courange; niece Donna Courange.
The thing you noticed most about "Margie" was "She never looked her age" and "She was always happy".
Family as requested memorials be made to Valley Mills First Methodist Church or to the Valley Mills Fire Department.
