Mae Belle Smith
April 3, 1957 ~ July 4, 2022

Mae Bell Smith, age 65, of Crawford, Texas, passed away on July 4, 2022, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be 11 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Valley Mills First Baptist Church under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service a the church.

Mae was born April 3, 1957, in McGregor, Texas, to Nora Mae and Travis DeChaume. Mae was #6 out of 10 kids. Mae attend Crawford School and cared for her younger siblings while her mom and dad worked in the hay fields. Mae married George Smith in Big Lake, Texas, on Oct. 16, 1981, and became a mother of 2 girls Sam and Heather. Mae lived in Crawford, Monahans, and Meridian for the most of her life. Mae was like a nanny to her nieces and nephews in her spare time. She loved to crocheted, cook and read her books and watch her game shows. She had worked a Dollar General and Quick Check both in Meridian. Mae had lots of friends, because she was a very likable and lovable person. She loved camping and boating with her nieces and nephews. She also loved working in the kitchen canning with her sisters.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Nora Mae and Travis DeChaume; brother Jim DeChaume; brother-in-law Jessie Bishop; 2 nieces Vickie West and Natalie Kelley.

Survivors include husband George Smith, daughters: Samantha and Heather Smith of Crawford; sisters: Lou Ella Bishop of Crawford, Billie DeChaume, Leona McKain, Connie Woodley, all of Valley Mills, Patti True of Crawford, Brothers: Booger (Travis) Dechaume, Clinton DeChaume of Crawford, and Johnny DeChaume of Meridian; several nieces and nephews.

Mae will be truly missed by her friends and family.
