Linda Jane (Burson) Smith

February 24, 1950 ~ March 21, 2026

Linda Jane (Burson) Smith, 76, was born on February 24, 1950, to Curtice Roy Burson Sr. and Ruby Lee Burson.  She was called home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2026.

Linda graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1968. She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in 1969 and dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked in numerous nursing homes and faithfully served at Hillcrest Hospital for over 40 years until her retirement in 2017.

She married Johnny Robert Smith in 1973, and together they made their home in Valley Mills, Texas. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Jimmy Smith of Valley Mills, Texas, and Julie Fontenot of Hewitt, Texas.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Taylor Lewis, Kalen Smith Martin, Bowen Smith, Weston Smith, Brayla Simmons, and Jaxon Fontenot, and a cherished great-grandmother to Aurora Jade Edwards.

Linda's grandchildren and great-grandchild were truly her world. She found immense joy in their lives and did whatever it took to make them happy. Her love, strength, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Curtice Roy Burson Sr. and Ruby Lee Burson, and her brother, Curtice Roy Burson Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Robert Smith; her children, Jimmy Smith and his wife, Erin, and Julie Fontenot and her husband, Anthony; her beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter; her brothers, Larry Gene Burson and wife, Debbie, and Garry Dene Burson and wife, Charlanne, along with many nieces and nephews and other extended family who will continue to carry her memory forward.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Linda's many friends and coworkers who walked alongside her throughout her life, offering companionship, support, and lasting friendship.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills, Texas.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Baylor Scott & White Central Texas Foundation in support of nursing, honoring Linda's many years of compassionate service as a nurse.
