Leo M. Spross

Leo Morris Spross, age 89, of Waco, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017,  at Hewitt Senior Care.  Graveside service will be 2 P.M. Friday, September 8, 2017, at Canaan Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Ron Miller officiating under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

While there will be no formal visitation, visitation will commence at 10 A.M. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Donna Grimestad, Box 664, Hewitt, Texas 76643.

Leo was born on August 8, 1928, in Prairie Chapel community near Crawford, Texas,  to Louis and Meta (Weber) Spross.  He was a lifelong member of Canaan Baptist Church where he was baptized on Sept. 1, 1940, by Rev. Cornelius Gossen.  He served there in various capacities over the years, including treasurer, trustee, and choir member.   Leo attended elementary school at the Prairie Chapel Schoolhouse and graduated from Crawford High School in 1946.  He was married to Bertha Caroline Massirer on January 29, 1952, by Rev. Arthur Schulz at the Canaan Church parsonage.  They were married for 61 years, until her death in 2013.  Leo farmed and ranched area for most of his life.

He also drove the school bus for Crawford I.S.D. for over ten years, a job he enjoyed very much.    He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and an infant brother.

Leo is survived by his children: Farron Spross and wife Karen of Waco, Ramona Cunningham and husband David of Crawford, grandchildren:  Rachel Spross, Andrew Spross, Colt Cunningham and Chloe Cunningham; one brother:  Harvey Spross, and his wife Donna, other relatives and many friends.
