Leo (Fulp) Howard Nov. 13, 1920~~ Nov. 21, 2011 Leo (Fulp) Howard, age 91, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011, in a Valley Mills Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 10 A.M. Friday, November 25th at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Mrs. Howard was born November 13, 1920, in McGregor, Texas. She was the daughter of Jesse and Katherine (Russell) Fulp. She went to school near Ocee at Highland. She had worked at the Bluebonnet Ordinance Plant assembling bombs during World War II in McGregor. During that time she was a softball player for a travel team while baseball was on hold. Leo then lived on the campus of the Methodist Home Orphanage in Waco for a number of years working as a cook. She worked at the Valley Mills Care Center from the day they opened until she retired 40 years later. She married Jake Howard in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Howard had lived in the Valley Mills-Crawford-McGregor area most of her life. She was known for her natural skills with cooking and forher generosity with visitors. Leoset her own pace: She married at 45, was baptized at 65, and retired at 85. She was quite the individual. She was a member of the Valley Mills First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeanetta Fulp Speegle and two brothers, Burton Fulp and James Fulp. Survivors include her brother, Bill G. Fulp and her twin sister, Cleo Richardson both of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews; caretaker and special friend, Shirley Zwicky.
