Karen was born on February 15, 1950, in Oakland, California, to John and Eugenia Schroeder. She lived in various states across the country, before landing in Brownwood, Texas, where she raised her family, managed a bakery and a convenience store. Karen often said "it took 7 children to raise me." In July of 1991, she married Marshall L. Garner and they spent 31 loving years together, learning to drive a semi-truck across the country before settling down on their farm in Clifton, Texas. On their farm, they loved spending time in the garden with their chickens and watching the cows graze. They enjoyed roasting coffee beans, becoming bee keepers and harvesting their own honey, selling watermelons, alfalfa hay and farm fresh eggs. Karen truly loved the simple life and was absolute in her faith, in the forgiveness offered by Jesus Christ. She knew the Father, and He knew her. His Holy Ghost was her comfort in her last days, and we rest assured that she is with all those who have gone before. We look forward to reuniting with her one day in the presence of the Lord.
Karen is preceded in death by Marshall L. Garner (husband), John R. Schroeder (father), Eugenia C. Schroeder (mother), Jim and Barbara Payette, Roberta Rogers and Todd and Verla Pelley (sisters and brothers-in-law) and James Schroeder and David Schroeder (brothers).
Karen is survived by her children, Kevin Cray (Shannon), Valarie Smith (Shawn), Kristine Martinez (Steven), Tim Cray (Ronda), Jon Cray (Jodi), Stephanie Cray, and Cyndi Cray as well as Marsha Dammers and Michelle DeLeon, daughters by marriage, Bill Rogers (brother-in-law) numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by many. Though we weep today for her departure from this life, we can hear the Lord Jesus greeting her, "well done my good and faithful servant… enter though into the joy of the Lord."
