Julie Lynn Smith, age 65, of Valley Mills, passed away Dec. 5, 2016, in Waco, Texas. The family will have a private memorial service at a later day under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Julie was born March 17, 1951, on her father's 30th birthday to Manfred and Virginia (Cowell) Stobbe in Elmhurst, Illinois. She graduated high school in 1969 from Lafayette High School in Ellisville, Missouri, and received a nursing license in 1979 from North Harris County College in Houston, Texas. Julie spent the majority of her nursing career in Waco, employed by Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for 17 years as an LVN. She took great pride in her work, and felt privileged to have helped so many others. She retired from nursing in 2003 due to health issues. Julie enjoyed arts, crafts, genealogy and she was an avid reader, never without a book in hand. She was preceded in death by her father, Manfred Gustav Stobbe.
She is survived by her devoted and adoring husband of 30 years, James; her mother Virginia Stobbe of Black Mountain, NC; son Matthew Schmeer and wife Karen of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Erica Jay and husband James of Valley Mills; 6 grandchildren: Lucas, Maria, Emily, Anna, Michael, and Allison. Survivors also include 5 siblings as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Providence Hospice Place for providing care to Julie and for their comforting words and presence during her brief stay.
