Joyce Veronica Schaffer Contreras

Joyce Veronica Schaffer Contreras, age 75, formerly of Venus, passed away Friday, at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home.  The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Joyce was born in Washington, Missouri, to Harry and Hazel Schaffer on March 7, 1949. Joyce grew up in Pacific, Missouri. She attended St. Bridget's Catholic School, she did not graduate, in the 8th grade she quit school due to the fact she couldn't see the blackboard even from the first row. She left home at an early age, traveled to Dallas, Texas area and made a life for herself driving a truck. Joyce married Richard Contreras around 1965.  Joyce didn't have any kids of her own but had a lot of nieces and nephews that she treated as her own. Joyce was the aunt or friend that you could go to tell her anything and she would keep it to herself and if you were in trouble she was going to help you get out of it. If you had the blessing to meet Joyce and know her for any amount of time you became family to her. Joyce learned to speak Spanish and cook the best Mexican food, she made the beat tamales in the world and made a living selling them, she had a big clientele. Joyce was a member of the No turning back ministry in Venus, Tx and was known as mama Joyce and she was mama to anyone that needed one.

Joyce leaves behind sister-in-law Patricia Schaffer, numerous of nieces and nephews, including great and great-great  nieces and nephews

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Hazel Schaffer, brothers Thomas (Tom) Schaffer, Charlie Schaffer, Sisters Rita Nelson, and Mary Proffitt.
