John Terrell Gardner
January 13, 1940 - December 11,2022
John Terrell Gardner, age 82, of Valley Mills, Texas, passed away at his home in Valley Mills on December 11, 2022, surrounded by his family. Graveside services were held at the Itasca Cemetery with Dr. John Wheatley officiating under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
John was born in Callahan County to John Bernard Gardner and Bessie Bea Larkin. He was the second oldest of 11 children. He grew up in Scranton, Rising Star and Cross Plains on a large farm. He was moving equipment from Kansas to Itasca Texas when he met the love of his life Geneva Rene Hines. They married after a short 3 week courtship. He was 19 and she was 17. Their union resulted in a great life direction for several younger siblings. John and Geneva became the center of the circle for the Gardner and Hines family. They opened a very successful Service Station business in Grand Prairie, Texas. Later opening several successful businesses having settled in Weatherford, Texas. There they raised their family. They enjoyed spending time especially with their children and going on trips together.
We truly believe the song "Big John" was written about him. John always said Geneva (he called her Renie, and the only one that could) was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen and Geneva always said "John was the strongest man she'd ever known".
Now they are together again.
John worked very hard to provide a wonderful life and future for his family. Until our family is together again, we will love and miss you every day and cherish all of our memories. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Geneva Rene, his parents, 3 brothers, a sister and a son- in- law.
He is survived by his loving children John Terry, Kathy, Kim and her spouse Craig, Karen and her spouse Ty; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
John will be remembered as Our Hero, Loving Husband, Daddy, The best brother , Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. John will be deeply missed.
