Jo Nell Meyer, a 5th generation Texans, passed to be with her Heavenly Father, in her home in Valley Mills TX, on March 17th 2020. Mrs. Meyer will lie in state at Foss Funeral Home an Cremation Center on Friday, March 20th from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. under the guidelines imposed by the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Meyer, her parents Cone and Pearl Dansby, her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Lonnie Renfro, daughter-in-law Christy Meyer, sister-in-law Catherine Dansby, and brother-in-law J. C. Godby. She is survived by her Brother CR Dansby, sister Ruby Godby, and sister Corrine and Lyndol Rabbe. She is also survived by her three children; Carolyn Yastic and her daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Robert Green and sons Chris Peterson and Matthew Peterson, Donna Barnard and her daughter and son-in-law Amy and John Huffman, daughter Jenny Barnard and stepdaughter Dawn Rodriguez, son Gerald Meyer, Jr. and wife Angela Meyer and children Gerald Samuel Meyer and Sarah Meyer. Also great grandchildren Alex Rodriguez, Alan Rodriguez, Rian Peterson, Griffin Peterson, John Michael Huffman, and Hudson Green.

Jo Nell graduated from Valley Mills High School 1954, she met her husband Gerald in Valley Mills schools and they started "going together" in the 5th grade. They married August 27th, 1955. Jo Nell attended numerous college as Gerald began coaching and they moved to Pasadena, Ennis, Dennison and then back to Pasadena. Jo was in the first classes of the "new" San Jacinto College. She ended up graduating from SE Oklahoma University. Jo Nell was involved in church her whole life, she was baptized during high school at the Searsville Baptist Church. Wherever her and Gerald lived the worshiped and worked in their churches; Tabernacle Baptist in Ennis, First Baptist Dennison, First Baptist Pasadena, and First Baptist Valley Mills. Vacation Bible School was an every year event, and the WMU was a passion.

She began teaching in 1972 in Pasadena at South Shaver Elementary in 5th grade. In 1978 she began teaching 7th grade Texas History at Southmore Intermediate in Pasadena until 1992 when she retired. She led teams to victory in various academic competitions while at Southmore.

Jo Nell's love of history blossomed as she and Gerald began working on the family genealogy. She joined the Daughters of the Republic in 1988, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. After Gerald and Jo retired they moved back home to Valley Mills and she got highly involved the Bosque Valley Heritage Society and the Bosque County Historical Society. Gerald and Jo Meyer honored by Bosque County Historical Society on March 14, 2009 at the 21st Annual Preservation Luncheon where Jo won the Bosque County Historical Commission's Election Oak award. For these groups she compiled two books: Obituaries in the Valley Mills and Surrounding Area in Bosque County-organized obituaries published in the Valley Mills Progress, Valley Mills Tribune, Valley Mills Sun, Clifton Record, Meridian Tribune, Waco Tribune Herald, and a few others compiled and indexed by Gerald and Jo Meyer for the Valley Mills Public Library in 2005 & Profiles of Pioneer Families in the Valley Mills Area-Profiles of Pioneer families in the Valley Mills Area were published in the Valley Mills Tribune from 1974-8 and was compiled and indexed by Gerald and Jo Meyer for the Bosque County Collection 1998. She also joined the Eastern Star-Valley Mills Chapter No. 97, on May 28, 1996.
