Obituary

Imogene Pogue Aug. 4, 1919~May 25, 2012 Imogene Roberson Pogue of Valley Mills passed away Friday, May 25, after a brief illness. She will be remembered in a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, at First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, Dr. John Wheatley officiating. Interment will follow at the Valley Mills Cemetery, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service at the church. Mrs. Pogue was born August 4, 1919, in Hereford, Texas, the middle child of Jack and Minnie Roberson. She attended public schools in Hereford, then graduated from Wayland Baptist College, when it was a junior college, and West Texas State College. She received the master's degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She met Russell Pogue while both were working at a summer youth camp. They were married June 16, 1944 and lived in Fort Worth while Russell completed seminary. She chose as her life's work to be his constant support and served as an involved church leader as he pastored Baptist churches in Val Verde and Rogers in Central Texas and Kress, Friona, Hereford, Wellington, Petersburg, Cisco and Spearman in the Texas Panhandle. In 1981, Bro. Pogue retired from the active ministry and they served for a year in Uganda as missionaries for the Southern Baptist Convention. After settling in Valley Mills for a year, they returned for a second year of service in Africa. Following their return, the Pogues busied themselves with involvement in churches throughout Bosque County, they were frequent speakers for camps and other programs as missionaries and always as encouragers and mentors for pastors, leaders and churches. Mrs. Pogue was a Sunday School teacher, WMU leader, both locally and on an associational and state level, and a chalk-talk artist. She was secretary for the retired missionary group in Waco for several years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Russell, and a daughter-in-law Karen Pogue. She is survived by four children, daughter Lois and husband Jim Ferguson of Waco; son Jim and wife Sylvia of Houston; son Dan and wife Patti of Wichita, KS; and son Ed and wife Jamie of Wills Point. Her grandchildren include Mark Ferguson and wife Lana of Godley; Anne Ferguson of Dallas; Charis Pogue Mallory and husband Dana of Sugar Land; Chloe Cervin Taylor and husband Chris of Houston; Matthew Pogue of Canyon; Michelle Pogue of Canyon; Nathan Pogue of Wichita, KS; and Greg and Cory Parks of Wills Point. Great-grandchildren are Lori and Bryan Mallory of Sugarland; Cormac Taylor of Houston and Jacqueline Olivia Ferguson of Godley. She is also survived by a brother-in-law and his wife, Paul and Sherrill Pogue of Mart, and several nieces and nephews. The family extends grateful thanks to the staff at Wesley Woods Care Center, Providence Hospital and Providence Hospice. Donations in her memory may be made to Latham Springs Baptist Encampment in Aquilla, Texas, or the First Baptist Church of Valley Mills, Texas.
