Obituary

Ida Sanders Lander August 16, 1910--May ---, 2012 Ida Sanders Lander, age 101, of Crawford went to be with her Lord , on May 23, 2012, just 3 months short of her 102nd birthday. Graveside service will be 11 A.M. Friday, May 25th at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Crawford, Texas under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Ida was born August 16, 1910, in a farmhouse in Fisher county, Texas to Otto and Betty (Sicko) Sanders, the first born of nine children. Because of the West Texas sand and wind, her paw, a share cropper farmer, moved the young family to Prairie Chapel, Texas, near Crawford. She grew up working in the fields with a team of mules, cultivating the soil, along side her father and brothers. Early on she developed a strong work ethic of working to live and living to work. She became a child of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism November 4, 1910 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Coryell City. Ida reaffirmed the covenant of the baptism through the rite of confirmation, April 15, 1925, at St John's Lutheran Church. Later transferred membership to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crawford.. On October 12, 1938, Ida married Joe Lander at Zion Lutheran Church, McGregor, Texas Together they worked on farms near Crawford. God blessed the couple with a son, Joe Jr. on August 24, 1939. Ida's beloved husband preceded her in death in 1976. She continued to work with her son on the farm until she moved to the Valley Mills Care Center in 2008 always hopeful she to go back to the farm to hoe the corn. She celebrated her 100th birthday on August of 2010, with family and friends at the Crawford Community Center and received birthday greetings form President Obama. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Hildagrad Johnson, Olga Schroeder; three brothers, Ed, John and Bill. Left to cherish her memory, her son: Joe Jr.; sister: Betty Lehrmann of Flint, Tx.; brothers: Otto of Crawford, Henry and wife Ora Marie of Clifton; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff ands nurses of the Valley Mills Care Center ands Clifton Hospice Sunset.
