Eugene (Gene) Simpson

Eugene "Gene" Morris Simpson, 88, of China Spring passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center. Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Patton Baptist Church followed by the funeral services at 2:00 pm with Pastor Pat Cummings of Patton Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation services. Full military honors will be observed at the graveside service.

Eugene was born in the community of Patton, Texas on January 4, 1928 to Bunion and Effie Tubbs Simpson. He graduated from Valley Mills High School in June of 1946 and enlisted in the US Army in July of 1946. After honorable discharge he attended Baylor University on the GI Bill and graduated in May 1954.                                             .

Eugene spent 36 years employed with the Veterans' Administration Regional office retiring in 1997.  He called China Spring home for more than 42 years. He enjoyed many hours as a member of the China Spring Lion's Club and was a dedicated Meals on Wheels delivery person. Eugene enjoyed his fellowship with Patton Baptist Church immensely                                        .

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Jewel Alsup, Kathleen Short, and Agnes Goodwin; brothers, Woodrow Simpson and Gordon Simpson and numerous family members and much loved in-laws.

Survivors include his three children, Brandon, Scott, and Sarah Simpson; sister, Betty Reese and husband, Dowell; sister-in-law, LaNell Simpson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the medical staff at Olin E. Teague Veterans' Medical Center as well as the many loving neighbors of the China Spring community. Memorials may be given to Patton Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. Honorary Pallbears will be James Alsup, Bill Alsup, Steven Short, Jimmy Daryl Simpson, Ken Simpson, Gary Simpson and the men of Patton Baptist Church.
