Edwin Earl Motley
Sept. 16, 1937 ~ Feb. 27 , 2022
Ed entered this world without much fanfare on September 16, 1937 in Mart,Tx. His parents were Lloyd Herschel and Ozella (Johnson) McLennan. He graduated High School as valedictorian and worked at his aunt and uncles store. Upon graduating he enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17 where he spent a full career & retired. After retirement he moved to Valley Mills to call it home & has been there ever since. Often said there's no other place he'd rather be or live than right here. Even after traveling the World. On September 28, 2007 he married Beverly Hansboro & they were united until her death on 8/23/2020.
He is survived by daughters: Toosa (Blossom) Barnes (Rodney) & Jerryle (Toni) Mims; 1 great grandson Cueary Barnes and a great granddaughter Lauren Barnes; he has 1 dearly loved Brother Charles Hopkins(Tammie). A very special nephew and ace running mate Charles Hopkins, Jr (Bubba); 3 genuinely loved nieces Charlene Barnes(Charla), Dorothy Mae Hopkins (short stack), Rhianna Hopkins (Rhi Rhi), along with the Barnes Boys(Henry, Rylan….& Carter), JuJu & Jaylen (lil Bubba) not to forget his little dog Tucker. And a special person he loved like a sister, Henrietta Hopkins (Rhett)
A beloved and devoted cousin he was very close to Gayler Taylor (Robert). He genuinely treasured his bond with his cousins Helen, Gertrude, Irma and Joe. Many many special friends too many to actually list or name. But more than a few were actually like family not just friends . And so many close, close beloved family members.
He truly loved life & everyone around him! And he absolutely never met a stranger!! Once he called you friend he truly meant it….& that friendship would last a lifetime. Ed had a nickname for everyone he came in contact. Most of the town called him Uncle Ed.
He loved life, and was an enthusiast on many things with so much knowledge in several areas. Fishing & hunting were his hobbies. Although his true passion was the love of guns, it was his ultimate 1st love & past time. He was a joy to be around with all his amazing stories of all his worldly travels…. Along w/ all his corny jokes…. He literally had a million. His smile was infectious & contagious. Ed could light up a room…..So charming, loving, and caring with a heart the size of Texas. He never missed an opportunity to help others…. whether financially or just words of wisdom. His family and friends will dearly miss his presence with his kindness and gentle soul.
