Dorothy "Dottie" Farris passed away on April 18th, 2024, in Waco, Texas at the age of 94. Graveside services will be held at the Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Early, TX on Tuesday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation
Memorials in her honor can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Dottie was born on August 12, 1929, in Waco, Texas. and graduated from South Bosque High School in 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Sara Williams of Waco, TX, her husband of 36 years, R.L Farris of Brownwood, TX and her brother, Robert Williams of Brownwood, TX. Dottie is survived by her two sons, Mike Farris (Eileen) of Pflugerville, TX, Jeff Farris (Shawn) of Granbury, TX, and two sisters, Joyce Ewing of Waco, TX and Ann Bales of Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was blessed by seven grandchildren; Shawn Michael Farris of Austin TX, Christopher Farris (Carrie) of Edmond, OK, James Farris (Katherine) of Hutto, TX, Wes Clark and Bryan Clark (Sloan) of Brownwood, TX, Taylor Kirschbaum (Jay) of North Richland Hills, TX and Lauren Voskuil (Alan) of North Richland Hills, TX. Her life was full with 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dottie had a fulfilling professional career that began with her work at the Texas State Comptroller Office in Austin, TX. while living in Elgin, Tx. R.L. and Dottie moved to Brownwood in 1972, where she worked as a Registered Histologist at Brownwood Regional Hospital up to her retirement in 1996. Dottie was active in several community organizations and was selected Businesswoman of the Year by the local American Business Women's Association Chapter in 1987. At the time of her death, Dottie was a 52-year breast cancer survivor. For many years she served with the Reach for Recovery and Friends for Life organizations that offer assistance to breast cancer patients. Upon retiring, Dottie moved back to Waco, TX, where she lived next door to her sister, Joyce.
Dottie was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and in her younger years was a Sunday School bible teacher. Dottie was known for her unwavering faith and service to her Lord and Savior. She read through the entire bible yearly. Dottie was a dedicated prayer warrior, maintaining a long prayer list that she prayed over every evening. Her active greeting card ministry touched many lives, including family members, friends, people on her prayer list, and incarcerated individuals. She created special cards for all occasions. Each card was filled with cut outs of scriptures, poems, words of encouragement, humor, wisdom, and comfort. It was an honor to receive one of her cards and a true memory.
Dottie's legacy of faith, service, kindness and dedication to her family will be cherished by the many who so dearly loved her.
