Obituary

Darrel E. Yates

Dec.  14, 1937 ~ Feb. 19, 2024

Darrel E Yates, of Kopperl, TX, passed away on February 19th, 2024. A celebration of life will be held on February 25th, 2024 at 6417 Beachview Dr., Arlington, TX 76016 from 1:00-4:00PM . This will be a come and go event where you can visit with the family and pay your respects. Finger food will be provided.

Darrel "Papa" was born on December 14th 1937 to Lilian and Carl Yates in Coffeyville, KS. Darrell met his wife, Marilyn Yates, in Kansas where they were married on April 4th, 1955. In 1957, shortly after they said "I do", their son, Randy Yates was born. They then moved to the Fort Worth-Euless area where they welcomed their daughter, Pam Hurd in 1960, and son Robby Yates in 1967.

Darrell worked as an automotive frame straightener and had many hobbies. On any given weekend, you could find him traveling with Marilyn, cutting up at the bowling alley, or spending time with his friends and family at a drag race. Darrel also took a lot of pride in being a golden glove champion and could talk your ear off telling you stories about all of these adventures.

In 2016, Darrel and Marilyn retired to Kopperl, Texas, where they had the delightful experience of having their granddaughters, Wendy and Christy, as their neighbors! After his beloved wife, Marilyn, passed away in 2017, Darrell decided to fill his time by raising chickens, which he absolutely loved. If you knew Darrell, at all, he has probably asked you to buy some eggs from him. His chickens were his pride and joy and that is extremely obvious by how many eggs those happy chickens laid!

Darrel is preceded in death by his parents, Lilian and Carl Yates, his wife, Marilyn Yates, and his brother, Carl Yates Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Hurd and husband Benjamin of Arlington, Texas; his son, Randy Yates of Kopperl, Texas; his son Robby Yates and wife Lisa of Maypearl, Texas; his brother, Roger Dean Yates, of Coffeyville, Kansas; his brother Donnie Yates of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Darrel passed away at his daughter, Pam Hurd's home surrounded by his family until the very end. One important thing to note about Darrell is that he is one of the most, if not the most, determined, stubborn, do it my own way kind of man- as his family states "He aint got NO quit in him!" He held on until he was good and ready to let go, and we know that he is full of joy catching up with Marilyn now.
