Obituary

Cleo Jones

"Grandnunner"

July 7, 1923 ~ March 23, 2026

Cleo Dorinda Laing Jones, age 102, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Cleo was born on her grandfather, Frederick Waddill's ranch in Coryell County, Texas, between Gatesville and Hamilton, Texas. She was the daughter of Henry Teal Laing and Catherine "Kitty" Waddill Laing, and one of four children, with two sisters and one brother. She attended school in Ireland, Texas, graduating in 1941. After high
school, Cleo moved to San Antonio, where she worked for a doctor to save money for college. Cleo went on to attend Tarleton State University (then known as John Tarleton), where she aspired to become an English teacher. During breaks between semesters, she worked at the Red River Ordnance Depot, supporting operations that housed military equipment during wartime.

On July 18, 1945, she married Clements "Bo" Jones in Mosheim, Texas. Together, they owned and operated the Jones Service Station, where Cleo managed the books and oversaw the office operations. In 1970, Cleo became a licensed nursing home administrator, a role in which she was widely respected for her compassion and dedication. She treated every resident as if they were family, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. She retired in 1990 and devoted her time to her church, her grandchildren, and their many activities.

Cleo was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Kitty Waddill Laing; her husband, Bo Jones; her daughters, Cassie Jones and Susan Jones Garner; her brother, Wilfred Laing; and her sisters, Mary Martin and Katherine Helms.

She is survived by her children: Danny Jones and wife Lilly of Jarrell, Texas; Juddson Jones of Valley Mills, Texas; Elisa Bekkelund and husband Terry of Clifton, Texas; and Sandi Jones of Waco, Texas. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Joe Bob Jones and wife Mindy Anne of Midland, Texas; Lauren Hall and husband Stetson of Santo, Texas; Katie Brinkley and husband Jason of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and Traci Phelps and husband Luke of The Woodlands, Texas. Her legacy continues through her eight great-grandchildren: Kelby, John, Saylor, Bella, MacKenzie, Teigan, Cora, and Henrik.

Cleo's life was one of strength, service, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
