Cayetano Gonzales Cazares Aug. 7, 1937 ~ July 16, 2015 Cayetano Gonzalez Cazares, 77, of Valley Mills, Texas, passed away in his sleep on the morning of July 16, 2015. Funeral service will be 1 P.M. Tuesday, July 21st at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills with full military honors under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Reception will follow at the church. Visitation will be 5 - 7 P.M. Monday at Foss Funeral Home. Donations in his honor may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. He was born on Aug 7, 1937 to Manuela and Hilario Cazares in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. He began serving his country in the United States Army after high school. Recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal; as well as the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was proud to become a United States citizen in 1968. Cayetano retired after 24 years in the Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He worked in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 20 years and was highly regarded for his knowledge of criminal gangs. He often conducted instructional classes for police departments across the state to increase their awareness of gang activity. Fond family memories are of family sports, summer camping, and morning hikes at Fort Hood. After retiring, Cayetano (Pop) enjoyed working on his land, taking trips in the RV, and spending time with his family and friends.Cayetano was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Maria Jesus Aguilera. He is survived by Diana, his wife of 46 years, his four sons, David and Jennifer Cazares of Austin, Alan and Tammy Cazares of Fort Worth, Gerald and Kathy Cazares of Austin, and TSgt Stuart and Sandy Cazares of Sykesville, MD, his daughter Anna Marie Lopez, his two brothers Marcelo Cazares and Hilario Cazares, his many loving grandchildren, great granddaughter, and extended family.
