Carl L. Chapman

August 21, 1953 ~ September 30, 2026

Carl L. Chapman, 73, of Sugar Land, Tx passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Carl was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 21, 1953 to Oran and Wilna Chapman. He graduated from Carroll High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas A&I University in 1975. In July of 1976 Carl married Marilyn Downing and recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Following a lifelong career in the oil and gas industry, Carl and Marilyn enjoyed family, friends and many years of retirement traveling.

Carl had a deep and steadfast faith in God that was at the center of his life. His faith guided his decisions, shaped the way he treated others, and gave him strength and peace throughout his life. He lived his faith not simply as a belief, but as a foundation for the way he loved his family and those around him

Carl is survived by his wife Marilyn and children Julie (Joshua) Oldham; Alan Chapman; grandchildren, Grace (Baker) Spargo and Payton Baker. He is also survived by his sisters, Diann Sheffield and Adelene Pless and sister-in-law Sandy Chapman along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Brian and brother-in-laws Lowell Sheffield and Dan “Bubba” Pless.

A visitation will be held Friday October 2nd from 5-7pm at Foss Funeral Home in Valley Mills, TX

 A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday October 3rd.
