Billy Bryan O'Banion

Billy Bryan O'Banion, age 85, of Valley Mills passed away on July 3, 2020, at his residence surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held on August 1, 2020, at the Valley Mills Church of Christ under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. State mandated social distancing will be practiced at this event and mask are required. Private graveside services were held earlier.

Bill was born on December 9, 1934, to Bryan and Birdie (Burkett) O'Banion in Burleson County in East Texas. He was married to Barbara Heath Nutt in 1978.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara O'Banion; and 2 daughters: Karen Jackson and husband James of Lakeway, Texas, Kelly Rose and husband Vance of Sonoma, California; 2 step-daughters: Jackie Vardiman and husband Phil of Abilene, Tx., Jan Hummel and husband Chuck of Bermuda Run, North Carolina; his 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Bill attended all twelve years of school in Sweeny, Texas, graduating in 1953, He attended Southwest Texas University on a basketball scholarship. He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he traveled between Hawaii and Japan for 4 years. Following his service to our country, he attended the University of Texas Pharmacy program, receiving his degree in 1963. Bill was a pharmacist for 50 years, working in Bay City, Beeville, Ft. Stockton, Mason, Waco, and Clifton. He was a life long member of the Church of Christ where he was a teacher, a song leader, and a part time preacher. He was an avid lifelong Longhorn. Bill had many hobbies, usually involving sports. He loved golf, tennis, snow-skiing, fishing and traveling.

Because Bill never met a stranger, he leaves behind an enduring legacy of many friends, and he will be sincerely missed by all.

Memorials may be made to the Valley Mills High School Athletic Department Golf Program.
