Billy James Burns, age 87, former resident of Snyder, Texas, passed away on April 21, 2015, in Brownwood after a lengthy illness with family at his bedside. Graveside service will be 2 P.M. Saturday, April 25th at the Crawford Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Billy was born to Willie and Laura Burns on Nov. 26 , 1927 in Valley Mills. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947 as a ship's electrician. Most of Bill's adult life he was employed by Sante Fe Railroad in Brownwood and Sweetwater. He also worked several years at Ezell-Key Feeds in Snyder. A lifelong Baptist, Bill served as deacon for many years. Known as "Sugar Bill" or "Dollar Bill" to his grandchildren, his sense of humor and the many tales he told brought smiles to all. Bill will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife (Bobbie) of 66 years, Siblings: Reverend Jack Burns (Shirley) of San Angelo, Merle Goodwin of Brownwood, Ray Burns (Marian) of Silver Lake, KS, and Johnny Burns of Valley Mills. Children, Susan (Kevin) Swanson of Alamo, Billy James Jr. (Linda) of Reserve, NM , Joy Beth (Lenny) Leal of Corpus Christi., ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
