Obituary


Betty Terry Braun Sharp, age 73, retired Marlin School teacher (Marlin Junior/Middle School) slipped her earthly bonds, on July 2, 2017, at the Clifton Care & Rehab Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10 A.M. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills, Tx. Interment will be in the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Visitation will be 5 - 7 P.M. Wednesday at Foss Funeral Home in Valley Mills.

Betty was born October 4, 1943 in Watertown, NY to Willard and Margaret Terry. She was the oldest of their four children. Shortly after her birth, her father was reassigned to Florida where they lived until 1963 when the family moved to Valley Mills, TX. She was thrilled to live in Texas.

Betty attended the University of South Florida her Freshman and Sophomore years, and transferred to Sam Houston State University where she obtained her teaching degree. She later attended Baylor University and Tarleton State where she obtained her masters in Guidance and Counseling. Betty taught school in Marlin, TX for 35 years and retired when "teaching wasn't fun anymore." She remained there for five years as a part-time counselor and teachers' cheerleader.

Betty was her parents' main caregiver until their respective deaths in 2008 (Willard) and 2009 (Margaret). She later moved into their home, and in 2009 she married her soul mate, Bobby Sharp. Betty and Bobby enjoyed traveling throughout Texas and other states discovering historical sites and beautiful areas. They especially loved Texas history and the Big Bend National Park.

Betty was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Bosque Heritage Society, Friends of the Valley Mills Library, on the board of directors of the Valley Mills Cemetery Association, the Dorcas and Ruth Sunday School Class First Baptist Church, Valley Mills. She also attended Oak Grove Baptist Church and Patton Baptist Church. She contributed regularly to many worthy causes for health, wildlife and the environment. Betty leaves behind; sister: Barbara and husband Dan Regan (CA); brothers Steve (TN) and Phil Terry (TX) along with numerous cousins and friends in CA, FL, KY, MI and NE.
