Obituary

Archie Wilson Pope, Jr. September 20, 1930-June 19, 2015 Archie Wilson Pope, Jr., 84, of Valley Mills, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Western Heights Baptist Church at 10 A.M. on Monday, June 22, 2015, in Waco. Interment will follow at 2 P.M. at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will be Sunday, June 21 from 2-4 pm at Foss Funeral Home Valley Mills. Archie was born on September 20, 1930, in Georgetown, Texas. He was the proud son of Archie Wilson Pope, Sr and Edna Gibbs Pope. Nicknamed A.W, or Dub by his family, he joined the U.S. Navy after his graduation. He served as a Corpsman in the Navy and was in the Navy Reserves until 1964. After graduating from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy in 1964, he moved his family to Pasadena, Texas, where he worked as a Pharmacist. He was a member of the Burke Road Church of Christ and served as a deacon. In 1975 he relocated to Valley Mills, Texas and became director of the Pharmacy at Hillcrest Hospital, Waco retiring after 25 years of service. Archie resided in Waco, TX for several years and continued to work in his field until 2011. He was an active member of Western Heights Baptist Church. Archie was strong in his faith and was devoted to his family and friends. Archie shared his Christian testimony by building wooden crosses and sharing his story with those he gifted the cross' to. He seldom ever met a stranger and loved serving others. He was a gifted artist, storyteller, and singer. His home was always open to those who needed to be loved and encouraged. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and the people he touched with his life He is survived by his loving wife, Lou Ann (Burns) Pope and granddaughter Caroline Clemons; brother, Ernest and wife, Estelle Pope; children, Kathy Pope, Gary Pope, Jon Pope; James Grisham and wife, Sandy; Terina Heintz and husband, Don; Bridgett Huffhines and husband, Mark; John Clepper and wife, Tracy; Billie Burnett and wife, Tiffany; Tammie Burnett; 26 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Roper Pope; daughter, Terri Pope; son, Jerry Pope; son, David Burns; daughter, Cindy Clemmons; grandson, Marty Palacio; father-in-law, Wallace Burns. The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgecrest Assisted Living and St. Catherine's Hospice Place of Waco for the love and care shown to our father.
