Alvia M. Smith Oct. 3, 1919- July 21, 2012 Alvia M. Smith, age 92, of Valley Mills passed away Saturday, July 21st in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Thursday at the Searsville Country Church near Valley Mills. Interment will be at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 - 7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Alvia was born on Oct. 3, 1919, near Ranger, Texas. She was the daughter of Volley and Calthey (Funderburk) Wampler. Her mother went into labor while she was working in the cotton field. She was born in a barn delivered by a veterinarian. They wrapped her in a blanket and placed her in a feed trough. Although she had a difficult beginning, she had a great ending. Today she is in Heaven. She married Harl Smith in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include her children: Henry Gale Smith, Harl Richard Smith, Ronald Gene Smith, Howard Charles Smith, William Lloyd Smith, Condra Sue Feight, and Winnie Stephens; sister-in-law: Barbara Wampler; 22 grandchildren; ands 18 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jason Smith, Gale Smith, Danny Sonney, Wayne Light, Brad Light, Mike Petty, and Calvin Petty.
